What is Complete Combatives?

What is Complete Combatives? This is a question I am asked quite frequently, and it is a fair one, as people need to know what they are training in and, quite frankly, what they are paying for.
Complete Combatives is drawn from my 45 years in training and contains elements (of a high standard) from many martial arts, and yes, they are mixed. The problem is, if I gave it the term Mixed Martial Arts, well then people immediately think of Cage Fighters, brutal fights, and baying crowds.
Before I have any angry letters flying to me, I am a massive fan of Mixed Martial Arts and have a huge respect for its practitioners. We have had students fight in both the cage and in standard Kickboxing tournaments, including my own children.

I, as a younger man, competed, sparred and fought at every range from Traditional Karate right through to Animal Day in the Geoff Thompson era.
At the age of 49, not long after a physical grading for my 6th Dan under Alfie Lewis, I was in talks with a promoter to have one last fight under MMA rules, in the cage.
However, a short but serious bout of pneumonia and weeks on a life-support machine took its toll, and by the time I was back to a decent level of fitness, the moment had indeed passed. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but it is what it is.
So, my concentration focused on what my Martial Arts journey was all about when I started as a young, bullied and frightened kid, and that was one fit for purpose for conflict.
The onus is very much on pre-emption (within the law), fear control, close quarter combat and power striking.

Having been lucky enough to have great instructors such as the late, great Peter Consterdine, Geoff Thompson and Alfie Lewis, I have been able to put together a very tight, strong system, and bring into that system methods from my Dan Grades in Krav Maga, Kickboxing & Karate, along with non-graded systems such as
Freestyle Wrestling and Western Boxing.
Add to that some bodyguard training, lots of time learning to control my fears and a lot of experience in real-time conflict, then that is the bones of Complete Combatives.
Anyone attending my sessions as a Martial Artist or Combatant themselves can find themselves training in Combat Fitness, Pad/Shield Drills, Grappling & Floor Fighting, Close Quarter Combat Striking and Weapons Defences.

We work at all levels, from complete beginners to high-grade Martial Artists and have taught Door Supervisors, Ex-Military, Pro & Amateur Boxers, Bodyguards, Court Officials and Police Officers.
Two things you will find when you train with us. We are honest, and we are welcoming. No egos, just realistic training and friendly faces.
